Attention: all individuals who were arrested or otherwise harmed by the eviction of the Occupy LA encampment at Los Angeles City Hall early on the morning of November 30, 2011.
You may need to take action soon if you desire to sue the Los Angeles Police Department for their actions on November 30, 2011.
In order to sue for money damages on the basis of state law, as a first step, you must file a “claim for damages” with the City of Los Angeles by Wednesday, May 30, 2012, six months after the date of the incident. The claim must be postmarked by May 30, 2012, or delivered by that date if you hand-deliver it. Filing a “claim for damages” with the City Clerk does not obligate you to sue, it merely enables you to sue.
More information will be distributed (including how to file an individual claim) by the Occupy L.A. legal committee in the next several days.
There will be a clinic between 10 am and 1 pm on Saturday, May 26, somewhere near downtown Los Angeles, to help individuals file a “claim for damages.” If YOU would like help preparing an individual claim, please RSVP to the Occupy LA legal committee at occupylalegal@gmail.com and indicate that you can attend. If there is a need to extend the hours later into the day on Saturday to accommodate your schedule, please let us know and we will try to accommodate your schedule.
