SATURDAY, 4/14
OLA Strategic Action Planning Part 2
Provide an overview of factors to consider in planning effective actions, than break out into groups to develop specific action plans (ideas from first session, etc. including the General Assembly). The workshop will culminate with report backs and a discussion of how these actions can come together as part of a comprehensive plan for future OLA actions and strategies.

Facilitator:: Julie Levine has an MSW from Columbia University in Program and Policy with an emphasis on community organizing. She has spent 25 years organizing at a community and policy level in New York, California, Mexico and Colombia, working both inside and outside of “the system” and has also been a professor and field instructor at the University of Southern California (USC) School of Social Work. Currently, she is an active participant at Occupy Los Angeles, serving on Facilitation, Legal, Occupy the Hood, Anti-War, Women and Allies and other Committees and initiatives.

Know Your Rights Training
Presentation, Discussion and Role Plays to review protesters' legal rights and best practices, as well as what to expect, when it comes to encounters with police, being arrested, jailed, and going on trial. How to be prepared and how to support each other. Basic information about searches, arrests, what to expect in jail, what to say and not say, what to ask, who to call.

Legal Observer Training
How to observe and record interactions with police at protests in order to preserve protesters rights and be available as a good witness.

Facilitator: Colleen Flynn is well known among protesters, especially those practicing civil disobedience and nonviolent direct action, for her dedication and expertise representing demonstrators and volunteering as a legal observer. She led the legal observer and know your rights training on Feb 28th for the Feb 29th day of action at the Walmart warehouse action in Mira Loma.
