episode I - the phantom menace

with chemtrails dominating the early morning and black ops helicopter “exercises” wrecking havoc in the night, downtown los angeles looks different these days, if only to the suspecting eye. still recent in our collective consciousness is the brief occupation of public space in the name of the greater good and the ruthless end met at the hands of law enforcement. the eviction of demonstrations throughout the country and right here in los angeles provides evidence of the sacrifice of liberty to the corporate power structure.  we can see the collision of two mighty forces, the right of the people and the dominance of the system, a continued struggle that figures to play itself out before all of our eyes. the materialization of a consciousness withing the occupy movement that accepted its own diversity and ignoring uninformed criticism used anonymity as advantage, struggling thru collaborative decision making on a scale as of yet unknown in our modern world. unfortunately all too often protesters have become victims of systemic deliberate mass suppression on multiple fronts.

episode II - attack of the clones

the elites in the city, nation and world have cause to find growing number of occupations disturbing. the message of occupy is dangerous to those who would wish to maintain power and economic dominance. how much of the los angeles city’s increasingly hardline approach is due to the occupy movement? obviously not all, the raids on skid row had been steadily intensifying and the police force oppressing minority communities. it seems the real difference that has occurred is the use of federal troops and homeland security. whereas in the past, poor communities were subject strong law enforcement presence, the occupy demonstrations have added a new element for the state to enforce control over. the free speech demonstrations are being countered on a national level with national coordination. the overwhelming use of force used frequently has been staggering to many who have witnessed it in action. here in los angeles the eviction raid was obvioulsy meticulously planned and even delayed in order to ensure a crushing blow the the civil rights and phychological mindsets of the the protesters.

episode III - revenge of the sith

the militarization of the rose parade and the kingdom day parade has happened gradually in the past, but this year was strikingly more evident. equally frightening is the fact that so many angelinos have taken such developments in stride. of course, this is a credit to the laidback nature of the people of los angeles, however, the elements that seek to increase suppressive control prey on such attitudes. security cameras and street cameras forcast a future of surveillance though the advent of video phone puts a counter back into the hands of the people.

episode IV - a new hope

simultaneously the world is witnessing the mythicalization of concepts we believe in or strive for, concept that we feel we must never lose such as freedom, democracy, representation and equal opportunity. the relegation of rights redistricted between land owners and corporations acting as people leaves the general public outside of its own governmental power structure, though they may not realizes it. long having had empire and hegemon status the united states has dabbled as world police, instigator, profiteer... we still talk about concepts such as the politically incorrect "american dream", however, it has lost much of its meaning by this time in the face of political and economic realities.

the media, from the onset of the occupation straight through the trials, has not helped the case of occupy los angeles. when the daily (and nightly) physical occupation of city hall was going on the media initially ignored it and then later began to portray it in negative ways. what could have been celebrated as the first amendment demonstrated by the masses, a feat that proved such intended dedication by so many people in so many places across the world indefinately, was instead pidgeonholed. the most popular and referenced story about occupy los angeles to date remains the biased and distorted report about the occupation costing the city astrinomical amounts money... deliberately and effectively used as propaganda by the state. even giving token appearances of positive or impartial coveravage, when the movement arouses enough people (a struggle post raid) to be taken as newsworthy, does little to correct the biases inherent to the mainstream media. the media ommision and misrepresentation of the people involved, the frustration behind and the motivations for the occupy movement continues to keep members of the 99% on the sidelines.

episode V - the empire strikes back

recent political developments highlight a current towards authoritarianism in society. some will argue the ndaa is another step towards the police state. some will argue the police state is already upon us, we just have not seen the effects yet to realize our plight. either way the push towards tyranny is appanent though many are not attuned to it. the language of the national defence authorization act law and the potential of abuse are dangerous enough, but the intensity of authoritarian rhetoric during the debate over the law and amendments indicate far worse instruments of suppression dreamt up and planned for the near future.

the occupy movement has been at times reluctant to take a hardline view of individuals in the law enforcement community. this stems from a desire to see unity within the entirety of the 99% and the tendency to focus on positivity and compassion and goodwill and nonviolence. unfortunately, in many cases this same attitude is not shared by those same counterparts within the law enforcement community and even the sympathetic elements within law enforcement do not have the ability to demonstrate those sympathies within the institutions that they belong to and that proved for them.

episode VI - return of the jedi

the direction that the elitist power structure will take is laid bare. the question now becomes the level of success that tyrrany will achieve. the people have taken a stand and the system is preparing for fascism. most people would rather believe or even hope that such a fate were avoidable. this much is clear, however, avoiding a fascist state is not likely to happen by government curbing itself. only if checked by the people can such a fate be shaken. the police state looms as the counter to the occupy movement and history now plays itself out as more and more people choose sides.
