As a member of Occupy LA I suppose I have a unique view of the whole thing compared to those who don’t encamp. I spent over 40 days living in front of city hall in down town LA. The reason they gave for raid was health and safety. They have been framing the occupations as unsafe and unclean. I have seen news articles claiming all sorts of things to that affect. The reason they are making such claims is to garner the support from those who have the same grievances but don’t want to be subjected to such conditions.
They are also continuously trying to divide the country as a whole. This is not just true about the occupy encampments, but about everything else too. Just look around you and you will see this as true. I want to tell you a little about our encampment. We had whole families that lived there. Some lived there by choice, redressing grievance’s with the government, other families had no other place to go. We had children there, disabled, and the elderly too. Were things a mess around camp? Yes they were! This is what happens when a large group of people live together. You will never hear me say things were neat by any means. But unsanitary, absolutely not!
Every day, a small group of people armed with bull horns and trash bags went around the encampment to aid people in cleaning up there messes. The camp was far from unsanitary. If your only news sources of information are the main media I see why you would believe such things. There is a constant media campaign to try and delegitimize the occupation as a whole. A major lobbies, Clark Lytle Geduldig & Cranford, got cot soliciting from there major clients 850k to fund an anti-Occupy media campaign. If you don’t think that this kind of thing is going on than you’re not up to snuff of events.
But why would the media go along with such things, aren’t the supposed to report what happens? This might have been the case many years ago, but sadly the idea of fair and balance news organizations is long gone. They are now beholden to the corporations who can control their content. This makes getting the truth out so much harder. People want to sit back and be told what to think, and that’s what they do. The only real news is now social media, and that’s even hard to keep on track.
The corporations are worried that our message will get out and ruin their chock hold on the world. They control Homeland security, the courts, the government, and congress. The government frames the occupy movement on health and safety concerns because if it was a fight on the grounds of the 1st amendment they would lose hands down. To those who say; how long can you do occupy, well we will occupy until our grievances are address and fixed. There is no time limit on the first amendment.
They don’t fight us head on they flank us and get us from a different angle. If you learned what we have learned in the teach ins, things that are wholly undeniable that they don’t teach to you in school, you would be an occupier too. They are afraid of the exchange of information and ideas. I ask you not to take my word for it. I’m an occupier so obviously my outlook is a little bias to that effect. I invite any of you, and all of you, to go down to your local occupy and listen.
Try and not judge, just listen. Learn what we have learned, and see what we have seen. If at the end of your time you still don’t agree with the Occupation, then god bless you. Thank you for judging for your own eyes and brain. I promise you that if you don’t agree, you are ether the 1%, profit heavily from the 1%, or the brain washing they have done to you is just too hard to overcome with facts. Not everyone responds to facts, even when it’s staring them in the face.
No judgment, we are all different. So this campaign is one of PR. We, the occupy movement, would love to give you better PR. We have been trying to get the word out. But we are “the tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free". Things in this country, and indeed this world, aren’t anything like what we have learned in school. This isn’t a partisan fight. We aren’t democrats or republicans. This is a fight for our country, and our world. We have no agenda but the placing of our country back into the people’s hands, which is where it’s supposed to be.
