What do we call what we are trying to accomplish? Many have said "revolution" but that is based on the word "revolve" which comes out of Latin where the meaning implied is to "roll back" which is exactly what revolution does. Do we really want to go backward and start over? Is a set-back the best we can hope for? Personally, I think not. Another term which I have personally preferred is "Evolution" which implies a step by step series of small changes and comes from the word "evolve" which again comes out of Latin where the meaning "to roll out" is encountered. I also like the term "covolition" which is of my own making, and simply means a shared will or doing things together. However, none of these terms really quite covers it, because what "we as a movement" are trying to accomplish is huge, and we are trying hard to do it in a way that is faster than evolution, less messy than revolution, and more diverse than covolition. It is a comprehensive reform of society, government, and pretty much everything else which has been corrupted by a few selfish people who have found the power to put their own greed above the needs of society... and no this is not about envy, nor about shame for not having earned as much as someone else. Many people work extremely hard to provide valuable goods and services to others, and many of those workers are of key value to such endeavors because of the skills and knowledge which they have spent their lifetimes accumulating, and I don't think many of us have a problem with rich people who have earned their wealth having more than poor people who would rather not try... but we can see that many people are HURTING SOCIETY and being rewarded for it with enough resources to exploit the hard work of others who in turn are barely able to get by and in many cases fail to get by and end up losing their ability to remain productive as they would like to. This is SIMPLY NOT THE WAY THINGS SHOULD BE and I would think that only someone isolated from reality or choosing not to look could fail to see it.
Now... what can we DO about it?
This is where an understanding of what we are trying to accomplish comes in handy. Tonight, at the General Assembly of Occupy Los Angeles, I am scheduled to present the first step in a comprehensive plan which is intended to facilitate the overall reform which needs to take place. I have listened to hundreds of people in the Occupy movement since it started, and I have listened to the concerns of THOUSANDS of people in the United States, and many hundreds of people throughout the Americas. I have also spent considerable time speaking with tourists in front of the White House in Washington, DC, and I have donemy best to take as many concerns into consideration as possible. I know that many people in the Occupy movement have "key solutions" which they feel would facilitate manny other solutions, and I have done my best to keep those solutions in mind also as part of this comprehensive plan I speak of. In other words... this is not about a single idea, or the work of a single person. This is about taking steps to have all of the best ideas get their chance to actually make a difference.
People have been slightly divided on one key issue. The issue of whether we should throw out the government and start over, or try to help the government to recover from the harm which has been done to it and become something which does more good than harm. To those who would like to throw it out, I would like to say this: If my way fails, you can always throw it out later, but if you throw it out and things get worse instead of better, then you will have caused needless loss. Don't think throwing out a government is something which could be accomplished without massive loss on all sides. It should be considered a desparate act to be used only if no better solution remains to be tried. For the sake of avoiding such needless loss, I offer such a "better solution" in my opinion. The first step is to show the people and the government what is wrong and that we do have the power to beat it. This is the step I am calling "Occupy the Vote" which is a name in use for many similar ideas which tend to generally speak of increasing voter turnout and in any of various ways effectively simulating a vote against the percieved evil, although there is little agreement on whether that evil is the Republican party or the Democratic party or both. It does seem that those who are blaming the Democratic party more are also blaming the Occupy movement, the poor people who live like dogs and have given up on being allowed any opportunity at a better life, and an envious middle class, so for what it's worth... consider the source. However, I would like to point out that the Democratic party is far from being the defender of the poor and hard working middle class. It has well demonstrated that it is simply closer to being that than the Republican party is. In fact, the single issues upon which those parties are polarized will likely never be resolved by either, because those two parties are funded by the same people and such polarities currently gain votes for each of them as people attempt to keep out the "greater evil" by voting for the "lesser evil" rather than opposing them both. We can do MUCH better than that. Please support my "Occupy the Vote" proposal, which is intended to encourage people to vote "FOR SOMEONE THEY REALLY WANT" if they can, and to simply write in "OCCUPY" otherwise, rather than voting for the "lesser evil". I am not saying what party to vote for or what party or parties to consider "evil" and I am certainly no saying to consider any candidate good or bad based on the party chosen by that candidate. Keep in mind that for a very long time in the USA it has been almost impossible for a politician to get far without beinng a member of the tag team party that passes itself off as two parties but really is just one party with two heads. So support what candidates you feel are best, but look into less known candidates... encourage others to do so also... and if you believe that a candidate will hurt the world or the country, PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT THAT CANDIDATE SIMPLY BECAUSE THE SO-CALLED OTHER PARTY HAS A WORSE LOOKING CHOICE RUNNING FOR THE SAME POSITION! TAKE THOSE VOTES AWAY FROM BOTH SIDES, AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO DO LIKEWISE! Even more importantly, remember that voting only on the presidential race is far too common, as is leaving the lesser known positions blank. So, I am asking people, on all future elections until we have the right to something like a Weighted Net Approval voting system which would allow proper representation of your feelings... if you are against or indifferent to all the candidates that you know enough about to have an opinion, please consider writing in "OCCUPY" as your vote for that office, so that your disapproval can at least in some crude way manage to get counted!

Is Evolution even possible
Submitted by macbug on
When 1% has all the money, controls the media, has bought the politicians, one must ask, HOW? Second how long will it take, Since corporations live forever, they can afford to stretch out the process for the next 10 generations, 200 supreme court nomination, 100 presidents, do not think for a moment that is exactly what they plan on doing. Simply out live us and continue business as usual, what is needed are acts of protest that cost them, especially creative lawsuits, etc. As for myself, I want change now, I do not want to leave this legacy of GREED and Corruption to continue one more minute.
Stay Angry and vote...

Guided Evolution
Submitted by TechnoZeus on
As I pointed out already, the word "Evolution" is rooted in the meaning of "to roll out" which means it DOES NOT HAVE TO BE RANDOM AND IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE SLOW! Yes, it takes time to roll out the steps of an evolutionary process, but it helps if the evolution is guided and it helps even more if those guiding it have a clue. WE CAN END THE REIGN OF CORPORATE CONTROLLED GOVERNMENT IN TWO ELECTIONS, OR MAYBE EVEN ONE! The real question is, are we going to make it happen, or stay busy trying to keep things the way they are? I have had SO MUCH OPPOSITION ALREADY from INSIDE of our movement, it makes me wonder who in the movement is on our side and who is either working against us or just in it for personal reasons. IF ANYONE OUT THERE WANTS THE RECOGNITION... TAKE IT! I DON'T WANT IT! ALL I WANT IS TO END THE NEEDLESS SUFFERING I'M SURROUNDED BY AND ALLOW PEOPLE TO BEGIN LIVING INA BETTER FUTURE! (And by the way, that is not in reference to the one comment on here that came before this one. I've simply seen too much backstabbing for one day and it's VERY discouraging.) So, I will be there in less than an hour and I already know people are going to hard block my proposal based on deceptive stuff floating around the list serves and such. The question is... will those who have already been convinced to hate my idea hear it? Or will I find that I am wasting my time and go find something better to do?
