Let's Challenge LA City Attorney Carmen Trutanich at the Ballot Box

The Los Angeles Times and other local media outlets have recently published stories that LA City Attorney Carmen Trutanich plans to sue Occupy Los Angeles for costs the city incurred during the two-month encampment at City Hall. What better way for Trutanich to demonstrate to Angelenos how tough he is on crime than to target OLA and its Occupiers.

Leaving aside the utter absurdity of the proposed litigation, it should come as no surprise that Trutanich has formed an exploratory committee to consider a run for Los Angeles County DA in November 2012 when Steve Cooley retires. I mean, seriously, what politician has ever run for prosecutor on a promise to go 'soft on crime' or to 'tolerate dissent'?

Well, I say it is now time that OLA shed its religiously non-partisan stance and decide to take on Trutanich on terms and language he and his political cronies will understand: at the ballot box.

Specifically, Steve Cooley will not be running for a 4th term as LA County DA in November 2012. Cooley has instead endorsed Deputy DA Jacquelyn Lacey. I suggest OLA start vetting Lacey to see whether it finds her acceptable to replace Cooley. If so, then OLA needs to get behind her now so as to stop Trutanich's bid in its tracks. Let Trutanich discover whom the 99% really back. Hint: it isn't him or his cronies on City Council.

Trutanich's term as City Attorney will expire in March, 2013. Assuming he is defeated in his bid for LA County DA in November, 2012, I suggest that OLA start vetting candidates now to challenge Trutanich in the next City Attorney's race in March, 2013.

Let OLA make of Trutanich a demonstration project so that every politician, every crony, who comes after him quakes in fear at the thought of incurring OLA's wrath and instead eagerly solicits OLA's support.

I also propose a Recall on Trutanich. See this:

February 2011 (goes to motive)

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Los Angeles city attorney Carmen Trutanich is coming down hard on political protesters, seeking jail time as much as up to one year behind bars for demonstrations he says costs the city big bucks.

But as KNX 1070's Bill Cooper reports, city councilman Ed Reyes says Trutanich is attacking a practice that dates all the way back to the American Revolution.

Previous prosecutors have treated many of these cases as infractions, but Trutanich argues that the protesters he’s targeting should face consequences for not having the proper permits, disrupting traffic, and costing taxpayers thousands of dollars.

So this is nearly a year old, but it certainly details the climate into which was born #Occupy Los Angeles. And why we are continuously profiled and harassed.

Councilman, it costs you nothing to leave us alone. See, I just saved you millions of dollars! You're welcome!

Trutanich is a phony, a bully and a liar

This guy Trutanich has been on our radar for well over a year now. He is phony, a bully and a liar. Right now he is about to announce his next political career move, he wants to be the DA. Never mind his previous sworn promise that he would not run for DA, he will just tell you that was just a campaign stunt. The bottom line with this pathetic lying piece of political garbage, is that he is utterly prepared to presecute Occupy LA protesters to advance his political career. He wants to look like the tough guy, so you are his targets. His plan is to bankrupt you over the costs of occupying the lawn outside City Hall. Yes, the very same lawn that City Council members and the Mayor greeted you on, and allowed you to remain on. But that's just an inconvenient truth that won't stop Trutanich - just look at the press he has already got from his plan.

This is not the first time Trutanich has exploited a situation just to get his name in the press. He tried to 'get tough' with AEG over the Michael Jackson memorial, claiming that there were 'criminal aspects' to a civic celebration of a great, but controversial, artist. But it was just a phony shakedown act, designed to make Trutanich look good. AEG did nothing wrong, but that didn't stop Trutanich from trying to destroy their reputation in the press.

Last year, Trutanich tried to 'get tough' with the Dream Act protesters. He threatened to put them in jail for a year, claiming they were 'professional' protesters and lying about some ambulance somewhere that couldn't get to a hospital because of the protest. But the facts were established, and when public outrage at his dictatorial approach to freedom of speech caused Steve Lopez at the LA Times to call him 'LA's Hosni Mubarak,' he backed off like the cheap bullying coward that he is.

Are you begining to see a pattern here? He's a blowhard who is just trying to make a name for himself regardless of the basic rights of citizens. Los Angeles doesn't need a bullying thug as its DA, and you should stand up to his cheap tactics.

This is not a partisan issue, it's about making sure that a decent, honest and trutstworthy person of good character become the DA. Trutanich has proven, by his own words, that he cannot be trusted, his word is worthless, and he cares about one thing and one thing only; his lousy political career.

Mike Peake's comments are well taken. You should take a look at who else is running for DA, each and every one of them has more integrity and honesty in their little finger than this thugish lout Trutanich.
