Senators who voted to allow indefinite detention of Americans

OLA Media's picture

The passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) through the Senate last Thursday saw the culmination of a ten-year crusade by Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC) to make the law of war apply on US soil. The Guantanamo Bay Beach club is officially open with orange suits and black bags against sunburn. Enjoy waterboarding or get a torture massage now!

Your constitutional rights are being taken and Americans could possibly end up in a further primitive state of affairs with the future costs of keeping our brothers and sisters jailed. As correctional facilities are being privatized is it a shock that more than ever emphasis is being put on jail sentences and arrests? With Occupy we see our First Amendment rights being infringed upon at an alarming rate and at any point ANY of us Patriots could be deemed terrorists and jailed indefinitely for protesting.

We have all embarked in this movement to fight for economic justice and equality for all; for 99% as the 1% sits on the welcoming end of the spectrum. How are we supposed to exercise our rights to promote a positive future?  For years the system has been jailing our children and making animals out of them. Victims of our system, they grow to hate and become unproductive humans. NDAA will make monsters out of us and ‘the system’ has no one to thank but itself.

In summary, once the NDAA allows for US citizen on US soil to be lawfully killed by the US military if the military believes that citizen to be a terrorist affiliated with Al Qaeda or its allies.

Where is our habeus corpus bro?

Email/Call our senators!

Thanks for posting this. I was wondering how to find out who actually voted for this bill. I hope everyone takes the time to email or call our two senators that both voted yes on this unconstitutional bill to let them know how we feel about that.

The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves - in their separate, and individual capacities. -Abe

Occupy LA Rejects the National Defense Authorization Act.

Occupy LA has drafted a letter to President Obama demanding that he veto the National Defense Authorization Act because it destroys the constitutional rights of Habeas Corpus and Due Process.  It was signed by members of Occupy LA and will be sent to the White House.   Here is the full text of the demand.

"Occupy Los Angeles demands that President Obama veto the National Defense Authorization Act.  The legislation includes provisions which destroy the Constitutional rights of Habeas Corpus and Due Process.  American citizens and all people everywhere have the inalienable right to contest their imprisonment and to a civilian trial by jury.  We reject this and all legislation which abridges these rights as well as the false belief that doing so will make the nation more secure.  The bill also contains sanctions against the oil industry and monetary system of Iran which are clear precursors to a military attack.  Additionally, the bill funds wars that the majority of Americans oppose.  These endless senseless wars only serve the Corporatist interests of the 1% and we oppose this and all legislation which enables and perpetuates them."
