ANNOUNCEMENTS

Unless otherwise noted, we meet daily as follows:

  • 4 pm -- Finance Committee Meeting, Downtown Johnny Brown's, Mon. thru Friday
    • Each committee should send a representative to this meeting! Budget is currently being defined.
  • 5:30 pm -- Committee meetings -- many meet at the "big circle" (the part of the plaza where there's an oldey timey map of san diego in a big circle) with very few exceptions.
  • 7pm -- General Assembly (Civic Center Plaza)

Personal Items Seized by Police at OSD
Anyone who lost property should go immediately to SDPD HQ at 14th and Broadway. Hours are 12:30 to 3pm. At the front entrance, turn right, go down the steps and follow the blue diamonds to the back door at the property room. Check in with the woman at the counter. There are still many personal belongings there, and you are allowed to look through it to see what is yours.

 

THURSDAY, 2011-11-10

  • 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM: Teach in by Lt. Col. Dave Gapp: "Cost of War" -- Lt. Col. Gapp, a USAF fighter pilot and combat veteran with 31 years of military service, will give a short 30 minute talk. After this talk, he will take those interested to the Central Library for a showing of Heather Courtney's Where Soldiers Come From.   • 7-9 PM: ACLU Membership Cocktail Party! -- -- Rich's San Diego, 1051 University Ave., Hillcrest ($35 in advance/$40 at the door -- members are free) RSVP: arodriguez@aclusandiego.org
    • A paid ticket gets you in the door, a free first drink, appetizers, and a one year ACLU membership!

 

FRIDAY, 2011-11-11

    • 10 am - meet at civic center
    • 10:30 - march leaves to grape street
    • 11 am - march with vets and honor their service
    • 3 pm - rally at civic center for global occupy day
    • 5 pm - occupy march and solidarity sleepover afterward

 

  • 9:00 AM – 2:15 PM -- VETERAN’S DAY - EDUCATION & CAREER FAIR - San Diego Concourse (Civic Center Plaza). (FREE)
    • Expected attendance…2,000. This event is open to all veterans and the general public. Employers and entrepreneurs with opportunities to share will all be in attendance, ready to take applications, discuss options, and provide advice. The event is outdoors on the Concourse with approximately 30 education and business table tops. Limited food vendors will be in attendance and veterans can receive free food with verification of service and event participation. SPONSORS: Military Press, American Festival, Ace Parking,

  • 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM: Teach in by Maurice Martin, Veterans For Peace: "Veteran's Homelessness, Challenges and Solutions" -- Maurice is an Army combat veteran and is on the board of Amikas, a local organization that works to transition homeless men and women to permament housing.

 

  • 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM: Teach in by E Raymond (E Ray) Brown, Ghetto Physics: "Ghetto Physics and the Occupy Movement" -- We the people realize it's time to Stand Up, and events are spring up across the country in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street. Ghetto Physics was written and directed to discuss these very topics that are changing our world today. To engage in this vital movement -- Ghetto Physics would like to assist. SATURDAY, 2011-11-12

  • 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM Workshop by Michael Mufson, Palomar College Performing Arts Department: "Street Theatre on the March" -- Using the consensus based theatre technique of 'The Theatre of The Oppressed' we will create a theatrical image to be presented during the1:00 march when it arrives at the Wells Fargo Bank at the corner of Market and 1st Ave. The image will portray the relationship of banks and corporations to the actual suffering of our people and the political structures that have enable them. No theatrical experience is necessary. Participants should feel free to bring any costumes or props that might be useful for demonstrating such an image.   • 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM: Teach in by Prof. Jonathan Graubart, SDSU: "Anarchism: It's Philosophy, It's Historical Evolution, and Its Continued Relevance for Social Justice"

 

  • 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM: Workshop by the San Diego Solidarity Network. -- Come learn how to fight back against daily abuses by employers and landlords using direct action and self organization

 

  • 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM: Teach in by Jeoffry B. Gordon, MD, MPH, Physicians for a National Health Care Program: "Health Care in America: Sucking Blood Money from the Ill for Profit"

  • 12:00 Noon -- Reinvestment Task Force(Committee Room, 12th Floor, City Hall)
    • Meeting called by City Council President Tony Young, will have all bankers that do business with the city sitting around the table, on their best behavior.
    • We are invited to engage in this meeting. We are not constrained to public comment rules.
    • Can we move millions in City money from wall-street bankers to local community banks?
  • 4:00 PM -- Occupy Clairemont Drive Bridge -- Tentative

  • National Occupy Conference Calls: There are weekly conference calls between Occupy sites. We need reps from appropriate committees to join in the conference call. Unfortunately, it is Monday at 7pm, our GA time.

    • We have room for 200 phone lines to join the conversation. If at all possible, it would be excellent for folk from the same occupation to join together and call in using one line, in order to maximize the number of occupations represented.
    • Please join the call no matter what stage or situation your occupation may be in at the moment. Have 5 people camping out? Great! We want to talk with you. Having GAs once a week with 100 people and not sure whether setting up an occupation is a wise investment of your resources? Super! Join the call. Recently raided, evicted and/or massively repressed by the police? That sucks. Call us and we’ll give you mad props, and ask to learn from your experiences.

GOOD NEIGHBOR POLICY
To allow for a respectful and safe environment for our Occupy family, Occupy San Diego announces the following Good Neighbor Policy (similar to that adopted by Occupy Wall Street):

  • Zero tolerance for drugs or alcohol anywhere in the occupied space in Civic Center Plaza;
  • Zero tolerance for threats or acts of physical or sexual violence towards anyone;
  • Zero tolerance for abuse of personal or public property.
  • OSD will limit drumming on the site to between the hours of 11am and 5pm only.
  • OSD encourages all participants to respect health and sanitary regulations, and will direct all participants to respectfully utilize appropriate off-site sanitary facilities.
  • OSD will display signage and will try to have safety and/or community relations mediators in Civic Center, in order to ensure awareness of and respect for our guidelines and Good Neighbor Policy.
  • OSD will at all times have a community relations mediator on-site (to be appointed each day), to monitor and respond to community concerns and complaints.
