The U.S. is a constitutional republic, wherein the elected representatives of each district are tasked with representing the interests of their constituency. The motivation ehind the Occupy movement is based on the belief that our legislators are no longer representing the interests of their constituency, but rather the interests of whomever funds their campaign most heavily. That is something with which the average American can not compete. Since money is now considered speech by the US government, and there is a gross wealth disparity here (38th worst in the world, going by our GINI coefficient), the system is currently functioning so that our votes mean almost nothing. Regardless of who wins elections, most politicians will be bought by corporate or union interests: whoever has more. This is against the very foundation of a representative democracy, and since voting no longer works, the only remaining form of democratic participation in our government provided to us by our founding fathers is the right to peaceful protest. It was afforded just for cases like these.
Why protesting makes sense right now

voting no longer works

.... I agree with you, voting no longer works.. I hope everyone will understand not to play the games of the government (I hope you know when I say games.. I mean all the madness that has been handed to the people with no concern-for example our Laws that never make anything better or solve a single problem, but worse, let the problem continue, with 'punishment') its time to put their game away and go back to logical, healthy thinking and living, which is how most of the normal public trys to live everyday. Now if there was only a way to bring those normal everyday people out of the shadow and into the light, to get them interested in how we can all live without fear for our future, without ANY politics or politicians or elected salesmen, and eventually without a money system to feed their greed.

So lets put the rubber to the road & try to get our jobs we were trained in or went to school for back, I'm done talking, I"m ready for action, either as a member of The 99% or on my own as an unemployed member of the 99'ers.
This redundancy is making me frustrated & weary.

I feel like when I read posts about wanting to bring politics into this movement or join sides with so and so or listen to the president.. all of that redundancy is what is making me weary my friend.
It seems alot of people FEEL the movement in their hearts and know its trying to make a difference for us all, but the right ideas and frame of minds are not on the same page,.. in other words its time consuming to get everyone educated..
I hope you know alot of people are fustrated as well.. both the people who are with us, and those that arn't yet.. thats why we're here

Education is best served with research. Some new people posting's are unnecessarily head to wall pounding REDUNDANT. It's like the previous 250 post's I have made or the 1000's made by others were just a waste of time. Sorry for being a dick, but ...ffs we need to get up to speed.
Constitutional Convention to limit political contributions to
Submitted by Rancho Larry on
$250 per elected official or candidate from any one person, AND eliminating ANY organizational form of contributions what so ever, are the single most important steps in this struggle. Neutralize the present system by removing ALL contributions from lobbyists and the big money contributions which create an environment of corruption. That is the first step. Everything else is details to be hammered out within the new system. That is the only way to restore the importance of the ballot. If you want to Lobby an elected official, take a number and STAND IN LINE. Any official that is caught shaving points, fixing the race, throwing the fight gets banned for life from elected office AND goes to jail, along with those who paid them off.
As Jack Abramoff expressed on 60 minutes, until the systems changes, the corruption just gets more sophisticated. Who should know better than Him?
Got a better first step? Frame the Image.. American Flags.. Control the conversation = We ALL Love America… We want the broken government fixed….. Constitutional Convention to rid the election process of the dirty money that furthers the agendas of the 1%.
