For now, copy/paste is clearly the best tool to begin assimilating information.
- Facebook page: Occupy Los Angeles
-- Lots of people have posted on there about priorities, values, and even sometimes statistics.
-- Lets scroll through and begin taking what resonates and forming different categories and groupings to reflect what people express.
- Website Forum
-- Encourage people to contribute
-- Website is creating an FAQ, towards which they have asked us to contribute our data.
- Friends/Family/University students
-- Ask for facts, figures, credible sources - We need to begin showing the masses that we are educated regarding the state of the country/globe and not just complaining about personal problems.
- For now, organize anyway you feel most comfortable. We will discuss our findings in person. Also, make it a point to tell others to contribute information - Our primary job should be to assimilate and synthesize, not necessarily study every little aspect.
I suggest we get together Saturday after everything is set-up. I will make an announcement to the group in the afternoon.
I understand that the task before us seems quite overwhelming, but lets acknowledge 100% of the responsibility and 0% of the pressure. More will be accomplished after we begin the Occupation, because many people will be spending lots of time together, making it easier to discover our mutual interests and recruit more volunteers.

I was at city hall this morning and I oberved voices from too many movements. The danger is that this movement is spread to thin and will invite wolves. The government will send people in disquised as supporters but who in actuality are there to distract. Stay focussed on the banks.

A thread for members to post Why This Movement is necessary

Sometimes it's very easy to think about an issue or understand an emotion, but it can be entirely different when asked to express it in words, verbally or written.
Or there have been times when I have defended & sided with a group of friends, never really fully knowing why or understanding what or why I was siding with them.
This is a very important social grassroots movement, more important than any I have been involved with in my life. I have never been concerned with becoming wealthy, my goal has always been to provide a comfortable living for my wife & kids, nothing too materialistic, and a stable retirement life. I, as my parent's & their parent's always felt that the American Dream was attainable, as long as you stayed employed, lived within your means & out of perpetual debt, were able to stay relatively healthy & sane, and have something planned & put away for your golden years. But two major Federal Legislative changes were made, one in 1986 loosening up the electronic media market allowing corporation's to purchase as many radio & TV station's in the same geographical area's as they desired. Putting the public at risk of the dangers inherent with a Monopoly styled news media. Which has potential to provide political & legislative influence through limiting the public an equally thorough presentation of the opposing interest's, beliefs, stories & representation for our, the public's, consideration. Remember, the Government can't demand, require or request a news outlet/agency that they need to cut back on this story & cover the other one a lot more, that's censorship.
So in 1986 our fair & impartial news outlets were compromised, the start of "THE DUMMING DOWN OF AMERICA"
Then in 1999, under President Clinton's watch, the congress passed the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act, which repealed a law put in place back in 1933, hmmm what years did the great depression take place? (1929 to the late 1930's in the States).
A Nuclear Version of Pandora's Box was opened, and in just a little more than seven years later, most hard working peoples retirement funds & portfolio's, home equity, small businesses & careers were wiped out.
Answer this question, why would the Financial Industry want to loan money to a young or middle aged person, unknown to most of the world, who want's to start a business. When all they have to do is point back to all the Bad loans they orchestrated during the 2000's, shake their large heads NO & continue dropping money into the fortune 500, or the 1/10th of 1 percent of the US population. We are in Serious Trouble People!
This is why I'm here.
