Morning Report: Politics and Principles

On the San Diego raid, it turns out that a form of censorship was in effect, the cops knowing that these ugly scenes are providing fodder for the Occupation Movement when they go viral:

‘Several eyewitnesses were troubled by the fact that ten members of the media who were present and displaying credentials were the first to be arrested and their camera's and video equipment confiscated.’

This reminder from Bradblog.com as we consider proposals on a mission statement:

“An October 9 Time Magazine poll revealed that 89% of Americans agree that Wall Street exerts too much influence on our political system; 79% feel the gap between rich and poor is too large; 71% feel the executives from the major financial institutions responsible for the 2008 economic meltdown should be prosecuted; and that only 6% of Americans identify themselves as ‘Tea Party’ followers.”

This is from a retired ATF executive who, amazingly enough, is the most eloquent of today’s quotable sources. Kudos to this gentleman for the effort:

“Nevertheless, that requires that we recognize the Constitution when it is in action. It is not always pretty and it is not always totally organized, it does not always speak with one voice, it is not always the model of organization or civility, but therein lies the essence of its absolute brilliance.”

“In the final analysis if the occupy Wall Street movement transmutes itself into an occupy the voting booth movement, the result is it will have some effect on the body politic.”

Denver

just saw video of protester knocking over motorcycle cop bike. Sure, the cop ran over the guys foot, I would too if someone put their foot under my tire, then this protester blatantly put his hands on a cop by knocking him over. Not cool. Mob mentality is common but should be avoided. I'm in full support of occupy, but this action doesnt look good.
