PLEASE UNDERSTAND: This movement is a NATIONAL movement that is an extension of what has been transpiring across the globe. It is NOT and will NOT be the responsibility of any one small group to list specific "Demands and/or goals". If you wanted to boil it down to one main goal, it would be to break the Oligarchy that has form in Washington D.C and Wall Street and to STOP them from lying, cheating and stealing our country from us. The way we will break that bond is by standing in unity in cities and towns across the country, indeed across the world and demanding a STOP to it. The specific "demands and goals" will come in time once we have built our numbers and they realize we are standing up and putting a stop to this. The "demands and goals" will be numerous because the problems are numerous and complex. They have intentionally woven an intricate, complicated web of laws and procedures to protect themselves, but rest assured that we will find our way through and ultimately succeed. What is most important right now is that we rise and join in solidarity.

Thanks for posting your message. It is important to realize that we all have goals to achieve, but we need to be patient. We need to break the oligarchy and end the plutocracy. People have the power!

Demands are Critical
Submitted by LeftWingingIt on
I think we should develop at least three basic demands that can be united around. Our demands are what will draw people to our demonstration becaue they are the expression of our political aims. If we don't have a few main, well-articulated demands then people will avoid the demonstration because of a lack of political clarity.
Occupation is a tactic and it can be effective but the goal will determine whether or not people want to use that tactic.
The demonstrators in Egypt, Greece, and other places where occupation as a tactic has been used more or less successfully there have been demands that are articulated well and early on. The demand for Hosni Mubarak to step down is what kept people in Tahrir Square.
The general thrust of this movement (99/1%) and the main target (Wall St.) are highlighting the general problem of capitalism and class society. I think that even a simple demand like "Dismantle Wall St" with an articulation for the reasoning behind this demand (the list of ills in society that can be attributed to banks, corporations, and capitalism generally) would suffice as a central demand.
Further demands can enhance our ability to build unity like an end to racism, sexism and homophobia and any other social phenomena that keep the 99% divided. Finally, we can't forget about the wars for profit that are sapping billions of dollars each and every day and killing and maiming the 99% of all the countries involved.
I hope that we can move toward developing demands very soon so that others can join the demonstration with confidence in its political aims and dedication to its tactical decisions.

Is there anything we can add to make this any more clear?
Yeah, I'm from the valley. Yeah, I've seen the decline. 818.
