FAQ about Occupation Logistics

1. How to occupy?  What to bring, what to consider etc.

2. PARKING PARKING PARKING - where to park cars, for how long?

3. Where can we park our truck(in a lot or structure) for multiple days? Do we have permits pulled for camping in the park across from City Hall? Where are the medics stationed?

4. I have friends driving down and loading their trucks with supplies is there an overnight parking nearby?

5. How to get there? - park n ride, train routes, schedules, bicycles

1. What donations do you need?

2. I don't have a lot of money, but I can maybe donate some stuff I don't need. What do you need? How do I donate it? I don't see anything on the "Donate" page for anything other than money.

3. If we can't come to LA but want to send material support (food, gift cards for food and supplies) where can we send it? (Some of us suburban families up here in NorCal wish we were young and could be there to show solidarity!)

The LA Mall...

There are public bathrooms underneath Temple St. in the area known as the LA Mall.  Hopefully you've already found them, if not here are directions from City Hall.

  At the corner of Temple and Main head Southeast towards the brigde connecting City Hall to City Hall East.  Cross Main Street towards City Hall East and find the escalators to your left.  The esclators will lead you down into the "LA Mall Area".  Exit the escalator and continue through the mall towards the food court.  Continue past "It's a Grind" coffee shop through the doors to the inside portion of the food court.  Turn left and the stairs just past the Chinese food resturant, just up the stairs you will find the public restrooms.  I hope this helps!

LEGAL INFO - sleeping, chalk, etc

People keep asking legal questions.  The laws are different than at most protests because City Hall Park is a park, with many special rules.  In addition, there is no permit for the event.  In City Parks, there is no amplification with a special permit for that, no smoking or lit cigarettes allowed, no cooking or barbecuing allowed (except in special cement containers and where posted -- and there is no such are in City Hall Park.)  OCCUPY LA BLOG POST

 There are MANY laws that are different in an L.A park, and I have posted them on my blog post. SOME are just Los Angeles public places laws that also apply.  Los Angeles has LOTS of laws about lots of things!  

IT IS LEGAL TO SLEEP ON ANY LOS ANGELES PUBLIC SIDEWALK FROM 9 pm to 6 am, as long as you are not within 10 feet of any building or driveway.   This is based on a court case settlement between ACLU and the City.  It is not a law, it is a court settlement that says an old law will not be enforced.

It is NOT LEGAL to sleep in the park.  That is "illegal camping," which is an infraction for which a first time citation is about $50 or 5 days in jail.  This is a very minor violation, but you could possibly be subject to arrest.  ALSO, there are sprinklers in the lawn, and these  go off at intervals.  

SOmeone asked if it is illegal to write on the sidewalk with chalk.  Yes, it is illegal to write or mark on ANYTHING within a park in Los Angeles, and chalk is specifically mentioned in the law!

I know this is a no-brainer, but start creating links from these questions to either google documents or to other parts of the forum.

  • FAQ "About the Movement" question number 11 should link to the "Voting Process" thread under "Facilitation Team"
  • FAQ "On Sub-Committees" should refer to a list of the committees, where and when they meet, a short description, and a contact person or two for each committee. Someone should be working on this by now.
  • FAQ on "Logistics" should link to the topic "Logistics SuperGroup" under "Forums" on this website.

Forming a Strategies Subcommittee

I attended the Demands Committee meeting and General Assembly this evening and one thing stood out...there is no Strategies Subcommittee.  This movement aspires to some massive undertakings but as of yet, there are no people who are developing strategies to achieve goals.  I would like to propose forming a subcommittee to address this and would like to be a part of it as well.  We need lawyers, former or current banking/investment professionals, political insiders, etc. to provide insight on how to best approach develop and reach our objectives.

OCTOBER 29 – #ROBINHOOD GLOBAL MARCH This is a proposal for the general assemblies of the Occupy #O15 movement.

Eight years ago, on February 15, 2003, upwards of 15 million people in sixty countries marched together to stop President Bush from invading Iraq … a huge chunk of humanity lived for one day without dead time and glimpsed the power of a united people’s movement. Now we have an opportunity to repeat that performance on an even larger scale.

On October 29, on the eve of the G20 Leaders Summit in France, let’s the people of the world rise up and demand that our G20 leaders immediately impose a 1% #ROBINHOOD tax on all financial transactions and currency trades. Let’s send them a clear message: We want you to slow down some of that $1.3-trillion easy money that’s sloshing around the global casino each day – enough cash to fund every social program and environmental initiative in the world.

Take this idea to your local general assembly and join your comrades in the streets on October 29.

If we could put together a petition to repeal SBX211 (retro active immunity) given to judges for taking bribes from the county and given to all governmental employee's that gave the bribes, Then you would put yourself in a very stong possition for further negotiations. LET ME PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY.

1. judges get paid a state salary of $178,789.00 a year with medical and retirement benefits up to 75% of their salary from the state. 

2. Los Angeles County is currenty giving the judges an additional $57,688.00 per year per judge. there are 460 judges that equals to $26,536,480.00 per year. 

3. in the case of sturgeon vs Los Angeles County those payments were found to be unconstitutional / illegal. after that decission the judges paid a lobbyist to pass SBX211 ( retro active immunity from prosecution)

4. There is no bigger user of the court then L.A.County, put it this way, if you and I were in court and my name is L.A. County and your name is OWS and I hand the judge $57,688.00 and I tell him I'm concerned about his retirement and I want to give you some suplimental benefitts. THAT IS A BRIBE. 

5. If we demand to repeal SBX211 and demand that  corperations and governmental agencie's are held to the same standards of the LAW that everyone else is held to the LAW. then we could exspect juctice and fair play.

6. demand that the $26 and a half million spent on suplamental benefitts be appropriated towards a fair and open banking commitee. ( don't worry about those judges they allready well compensated by the STATE as per the CA constitution.)

7. here is a list of reasons for the petition to repeal SBX211.

A. SBX211 does not restore due process

B. SBX211 violates Article 1 section 9

C. SBX211 violates the 14th amendment (no equal protections)

D. SBX211 violate checks and balances between legislative and Judicial powers.

E. Judges do not disclose the county payments at the onset of any trial where the county is either a party to the case or has a financial interest. (Judges violate Judicial codes of ethics)

F. Judges refuse to recuse themselves when requested under CCP170

G. Judges find themselves unbiased and then file an order striking statement.

ADDITIONAL FOOD FOR THOUGHT BELOW

Robert kennedy spoke out against retro active immunity..."QUOTE" (The very idea of "retroactive immunity" ... is so radical, so repugnant to the most basic principles of the "rule of law," that only one prior attempt can be found in recent history (at least from my research): the efforts by some in Congress (in 1965) to enact a law retroactively legalizing the mergers by six large banks which clearly -- as a federal court found -- were illegal under our nation's antitrust laws. 

  The banks knew when they merged that they were almost certainly violating anti-trust laws. But they did it anyway. And when courts began ruling that their behavior was illegal, they ran to Congress to demand that a law be passed granting them amnesty, claiming that the consequences would be ruinous if they were held accountable under the law. )  But the very concept of retroactive amnesty, the idea that corporations could break the law and then have Congress pass a special law legalizing their lawbreaking conduct, was so profoundly offensive to Sen. I have searched high and low and there are no links or FAQs about starting a blog. I posted a forum topic and responded to forum topics and neither action seemed to create a blog.

Or are blogs limited only to those who are camping at City Hall?

Bring a brush and a bucket of not-too-soapy water (please use non-toxic, bio-degradable soap - or just warm water). We will clean the sidewalks, walkways, and public spaces in silence to protest the recent forced removal of Occupy Wall Street protestors from Zuccotti Park under false charges of uncleanliness from Bloomberg, the NYPD, and Brookfield Properties. The real problems of public health and safety are caused by the policies of the 1%.

The future of Occupy?

I am an organizer located in Oregon. My fellow organizers and I are planning on putting forth a ballot measure or multiple ones here in Oregon in 2014. We have lots of good ideas for making new laws but we have narrowed it down to one. However, we are still open to others as we know there are a lot of issues that need adressing. I am wondering if anyone in California would like to work on developing ballot measures together that could run in conjuntion with ones in other states. Please contact me if you're interested
