Anonymous' suggestion for the Occupyers to be an official political party has merit on at least two fronts:  

1 - polls stating a 59% of Americans sympathize with the general sentiment of the movement

2 - viable support for a real democratic (multi-party) electoral cycle.

It seems the political Left has historically been issue-centric and consequently exclusive.  The beauty of the Occupiers is that it has become an umbrella, mother-ship, inclusive movement of active/sympathizing citizens.  This has the effect of making the issues our movement addresses central, mainstreem political issues.  We can no longer be written off as a fringe minority!  

The Democratic Party, even with President Obama, has failed to take us seriously.  We have been taken for granted given the only viable alternative thus far has been a worse alternative. The Occupy movment as a registered party can sweep the nation with 59% of Americans who sympathize (and would vote) according to recent polls.

An other viable option, to leverage political will, is to be an established NGO to pressure the lesser evil of the two american parties.  This, however, will quickly backslide into votes taken for granted by the Democrats, unless there are real consequences to that "progressive party."
