On Wednesday August 22, 2012 the Los Angeles General Assembly Reached consensus on this statement and call for a peaceful action in memory of Rachel Corrie, and in solidarity with the ongoing struggle of the Palestinian people. 

What: OccupyLA stands in Solidarity with the Corrie family, the Palestinian people, and all oppressed people of the world. We call for justice, equality, and respect for the human rights of all people, regardless of ethnic origins, religion, or political affiliation; we demand an end to the illegal settlements, blockades, and occupation of Gaza and the West Bank; and we demand an end to the housing demolitions that deny Palestinians the basic human right of being secure in their homes.

Why: To seek a just peace in the Middle East and an end to the 45-year Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza.
To bring visibility to the oppression but also to the spirit and endurance of the people of Gaza and of all Palestinians.
To bring attention to the responsibility we all have for the continuing injustices and human rights abuses in Palestine, and for the particular culpability of corporate America and U.S. taxpayers.
To end Israel’s impunity regarding human rights violations, including home demolitions.

On 16 March 2003 in Rafah, occupied Gaza, 23 year old American peace activist Rachel Corrie from Olympia, Washington, was murdered by an Israeli military Caterpillar bulldozer driver.
Rachel was in Gaza opposing the demolition of Palestinian homes as a volunteer with the International Solidarity Movement. Other activists who were with her said the driver of the bulldozer was aware of Rachel's presence, initially he dropped sand and other heavy debris on her, then the bulldozer pushed her to the ground where it proceeded to drive over her, fracturing both arms, legs and skull. She was transferred to a hospital, where she later died.
On Tuesday, August 28, in the courtroom of Judge Oded Gershon, Haifa District Court, Haifa, Israel, the verdict in the civil lawsuit against the State of Israel will be announced at 9am (Monday 11pm PST).
