Tomorrow - that’s Sunday 10.23.11 - we’ll be at Occupy LA at City Hall from 10-4pm. We’ll be doing a portrait project. We’re taking everyone’s photo that wants to tell their story about how the American Dream (whatever that means) has succeeded or failed you.

How you’ve gotten where you are - a beach house in Malibu? A studio apartment in Hollywood? A 2 bedroom house in Silverlake you’re splitting with 3 other nice folks? A tent on City Hall?

How you’re making due in this shitstorm of a recession - are you bartering? Trading? Buying low and selling high? Living off your savings? $20K in credit card debt and $50K in medical bills? Working three jobs? Moved home with the folks? Let your sister come live with you because she can’t afford rent AND college? Degree not giving you what it promised? 

We want you to come share your life. Bring a sign, your dog, your kids, your husband, your significant other, your plant, your bottle of Jameson, your roommates, your parents, your My Little Pony collection - whatever you want to help tell us how you’re making it work. How you’re keeping your head above water. How you’re staying sane and above all good-spirited when times are uncertain and hope is in short supply. 

The photos will (hopefully) make their way into a book and gallery show and the interviews into a short documentary. We’re not sure what will happen after that, but we want to show the rest of the country and world what you’re up to and how, fuck it all, you’re THRIVING. Show us your community - the friends and family that enrich your life and make it all worthwhile.

PS. Bring your wishes. We want to know what that one thing is that could help you get to where you’re going. Is it a month’s rent? The last college debt payment? A wedding? School supplies? A college course? A book published? Whatever it is, we want to know.

Come find us on the City Hall steps. We’ll be the Bad News Bears trying to tell your story.
