Van Nuys. Thanks to the investigative work of Occupy Fights Foreclosures, a subcommittee of Occupy LA, and Occupy San Fernando Valley, one foreclosure-rescue scammer is being brought to justice and one family has been reimbursed their fees and given back their loan documents. The entity known as Golden Global Investments is now under investigation by police for misrepresenting themselves as attorneys, charging fees and promising to modify loans when they are not licensed attorneys.
Statement of the General Assembly of Occupy Los Angeles, February 1, 2012
Occupy Los Angeles has always stood in unwavering solidarity with Occupy Oakland. After Occupy Oakland’s most recent victimization by the illegal and brutal tactics of OPD, Oakland City Council and Mayor Jean Quan, we feel it necessary to restate our unequivocal support for our comrades–we call for the dropping of charges against those arrested.
January 31, 2012 - Oakland, CA - On January 28, thousands of people responded to Occupy Oakland’s call for a mass mobilization to occupy a vacant building and transform it into a new home for the movement. Occupy Oakland’s new home was to be a social center, open to all who wanted to participate and contribute. We planned to work together, as we did at Oscar Grant Plaza, to provide free food, housing, medical care, a space for children, a space for women and queers, and, most importantly, a community.
