A mission statement of Occupy Los Angeles

I think you ought to show a mission statement of Occupy Los Angeles on occupylosangeles.org. Explain why all these people are camped out there. What it is we want. I would hope that it would go something like this.

The only justification for the existence of any government is to serve the needs of all it’s people.  To provide for their security and welfare with clean safe air, water, food, health care, housing, education and secure their old age. And to protect the rights and privileges of all it’s people.

Some of the ways to do this is to support Single Payer Health Care, secure Social Security, stop the Wars and Occupations of other Countries for there Natural Resources, support Education, stop Corporate Welfare, create Jobs for the unemployed, stop all Home Foreclosures, close all the Tax Breaks and Loopholes for the Rich-Corps and Let them pay their fair share with the rest of us.

The 1% philosophy

Many want to get their own PR by using OccupyLA's news exposure

Many 99%ers distrust the politicians, some media stars and those who want to take their own photo op with the occupiers’ tents, demonstrators, and ‘the ordinary people’. It appears that many suddenly want to momentarily USE this alliance to UP their own PR, expand their own limelight, conveniently expand their propagandas, or add to their campaigns. Some even do pretend-appearances to now be SEEN as "one of the people" with those who have actually dedicated much time and exposure to form these occupations. They want to ‘brand’ with our experience and get visibility, which helps their images too.        And most of these do not actually live these unemployed or dissenting or desperate lifestyles, if they ever did before. even while sharing their fame to our causes.      Some genuinely want to help. The occupiers need to check out what is doing what for what reasons of their own or also for all others.      But notice also that these ‘new allies’ are also useful to those dedicated to us Occupyin'g every city. Their affiliations means more media attention momentarily or becomes ‘social approval’ from the elite for the stated causes too. Approval leads to more media and exposure for what are occupier messages and demands too.      These sudden ties can be triple edged benefits… maybe ? The 'legitimacy' of these PR opportunities with stars, politicians, also helps demonstrators by providing cover and safety from the militarized police and nat'l guard enforcers, who now are less likely to act arbitrarily or abusively. Being in the shared Limelight now, helps keep the protest movement safer, more peaceful, and less harassed because the usual dispersal attempts may not be acted out as easily - with this celebrity visibility.      Sort of like the occupiers are now “OK” somehow because of the elite’s approval and apparent friendship. Yet,       Many of us groan at suddenly becoming 'accepted' and 'joined' by the many who NOW find it convenient to be ‘with us’ for enhancing their own images.     Beware of being USED for the moment and then discarded, or quickly soon ignored, or maybe thrown aside quickly.    When our focus on the 1%ers' and banksters' and corporatists' greed and their manipulations - damaging the 99% = “The American People” = is diverted to be ‘seen and heard’ instead of on changing our world. Beware of all those who currently wield excess power 'over' all workers and their lives. It happens.       Even those whom we have seen in our favorite movies, may be helping themselves as much as they are  helping what we occupiers intend and do.      Check out what is actually happening when such famous folk come by to visit. Don’t just be admiring and impressed by their image power. Yes, it is Good to be seen, noticed and appreciated. But be aware of the games people in power play, which got them up there into officialdom also.       Being IN the News is good … but also notice when some angry side-issue people stop by, to USE this occupied effort for their own purposes…like those who have also already arrived - to usurp any available Media attention to display their volatile venting as if they represented the rest of the occupiers. without the occupy grouping’ agreed consensus. Some saw that with 'raw milk' group who deliberately grabbed a mic and loudly demanded media's attention, with reporters also colluding by recording them . A special interest small group that displaced the overall group's peacefuller intentions and the hard work to collectivize.       Each piece of this American Pie that demands more attention for itself, is acting same way as politicians are now using the occupying groups current 'fame' for their OWN purposes.     Exposure, may not be the main point of the occupation. This misuse of the mic or video or photo. while pretending inclusion, is common practice - but also needs to be called out, confronted, and even discouraged - if not appropriate to what the occupiers have agreed to be known as = All these people who direct their protesting bodies and lives toward shared goals. These Goals may need to be repeatedly made - simple, clear and not so extensively inclusive that anyone can make claims to be the whole instead of just a tiny or little part. That is the usual strategies of the few who are greedy for fame and attention at the expense of everyone else – and steal the story from the others who did not agree that they are representatives of a larger 'whole'.      Even the prez and VP have recently alluded to some supportive statements… that now elicits further distrust of their motives and usurping the current attention that all the occupiers [protesters, demonstrators, dedicated workers ] together have created.     Be aware, speak openly of what is observed, confront those who want more than their fair share of the media exposure, and dont be cowed, or bullied by anyone's insistence they are more important than all the rest of US all.        [courteous serious comments and discussion on this comment and it's effects is encouraged here.]
