CITY OF LA DENIES ‘CHALK WALK’ PERMIT, OCCUPY LA PROCEEDS WITH PLANS

LOS ANGELES – Wednesday night, Occupy Los Angeles learned that the Mayor’s office has declined an individual’s inquiryfor a chalking permit in Pershing Square for Thursday night. Despite the news of the denial letter read outloud at Pershing Square last night, participants of the Occupy LA’s General Assembly passed a proposal to endorse a “Chalk Walk” event for Thursday night during the monthly Downtown LA Art Walk.

The event theme revolves around the phrase “Another World is Possible”.

Members of Occupy LA Plan to Have a Peaceful Event in Pershing Square the Night of DTLA Art Walk


LOS ANGELES – Members of Occupy Los Angeles plan to peacefully occupy this week’s Downtown LA Art Walk from Pershing Square where they hope to create a “community space” with the theme: A Better World is Possible. Participants hope the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) can stay peaceful this month after last month’s near riot caused in part by excessive police force.

On July 12, 2012, Occupiers planned to have a peaceful event of public outreach and awareness called Chalk Walk at the DTLA Art Walk, after 12 LAPD arrests of Occupiers for water-soluble chalk on public sidewalks. These 12 arrests occurred the six weeks prior to the Chalk Walk event and began only after the group started to target the Central City Association, a local lobbying group.

This month Occupiers take a different approach by setting up an open community art and music space in Pershing Square with a community potluck and a “Really Really Free” Market.

the other day i was about to cross the street and accross the street was a purple shirt on a bike who upon seeing me radioed into his communication device then a police van drives past me with tinted windows but not dark enough to prevent me from seeing the camera that they was using to take pictures of me with. i felt immediately like a crime had been committed against me. i still feel like that. of course as some of you know i am already paranoid clamps, however, the fact that police have actually been singling me out to surveil is a worrysome development.
