Bureaucratic Diversity of Tactics: Food and the Occupation Movement

               The Los Angeles County Health Department restricted certain types of food distribution at the Occupy Los Angeles food tent, a move that came as no surprise to some of the region’s professional cooks who have been providing hot meals to the peaceable assembly surrounding Los Angeles City Hall. For many weeks food service professionals have noticed an unusual focus by county health inspectors on commercial and nonprofit kitchens known to have donated cooked meals to OLA. “I tried for six months to get an inspector to show up so my school could get certified, and nothing,” said Brent Boultinghouse, lead instructor for the acclaimed culinary program at Santee High School. “But the day after we serve Occupy, I’ve got an inspector at my school?”

Occupy LA 1 Month Anniversary

Though this post comes 11 days after our first month anniversary, the first day we all found ourselves here seems like a distant memory. I've been fortunate to meet wonderful people from all parts of the World, different beliefs and many who've touched my life forever. Not every moment has been gleeful; human beings are privy to acting very primate. Emotions raw as a fresh-peeled peach; no experience has been as real and uncensored as this.

About 100 Occupy LA and SEIU members marched to the Los Angeles Times on Spring street and the Bank of America at 7th and Figueroa streets Tuesday, where they placed a symbolic tent and sleeping bag while demanding fair dealings for janitors and accountability by the bank.

Hollywood High School Visits Occupy L.A.

Seniors from Steven Steinberg’s American Democracy class at Hollywood High School visited Occupy L.A. on a field trip Wednesday afternoon. 

The students used their own money to pay the metro fair into downtown L.A. High school senior Amanda Muñoz said that she had been there before, “hanging out with some friends who are camping out."
