Women's Rights

Forums:

Hello,

I'm not sure if this is an issue already being explored by the Occupation, but I feel it is one of monumental importance, and one that must urgently be brought to the forefront.

Women's rights, in this country, are being both willfully neglected and stripped. The House of Representatives just recently passed the grotesque and assaultive "Protect Life Act," which, basically, says that if a woman is in need of a life-saving abortion, the hospital is allowed to let her die if it is opposed to the procedure. This, in a long series of harmful and alarming blocks against women's reproductive rights and access to healthcare, begs the question: how much further are they willing to go? Must women now start dying for their political/financial gain?

The GOP also attempted to redefine rape, trying to pass a bill that would allow women to have an abortion only if they were "forcibly raped." In lamens terms, those in power are the only ones who may determine if a woman was sexually assaulted or not. Once again, actively attempting to control and diminish women.

Women are still considered second class citizens in this country. We still don't earn the same amount as men in the workplace, and are still bombarded with misogynistic laws and attitudes.

This constant denegration of women is frightening, and if it is allowed to continue, will cause serious harm to so many women, moreso than it already has.

If anyone is interested in protesting these crimes against women, or know of any protests in progress, please respond.
