Time Magazine’s latest poll shows 54% view the occupation movement favorably as opposed to only 27% for the Tea Party. Here’s the links.

If you look further up the list of questions, you’ll see the “right track” barometer down to 18%. This is the number incumbent candidates for the 2012 election are looking at; their own performance ratings.

It doesn’t appear that the potential for further gains amongst the non-protesting segment of the population has not been seriously damaged by right-wing punditry or some of the crass commentary we have seen out there in cyberspace and elsewhere.

It is also apparent that the Occupation Movement has a unique opportunity to spread the message of discontent. There are lots of people who wouldn’t consider sleeping outside or carrying a sign around all day that are supporting those who did. We should, therefore, encourage these people to become part of the dialog we encourage here. You don’t have to quit your job to become a part of this movement. You don’t have to sleep outside if you don’t want to.

And the best part is, you don’t have to waste time writing to your congressman knowing that the best you can hope for is a form reply that thanks you for wasting your time.

The Anonymous idea regarding a third party caused some quizzical looks, but didn’t generate a lot of overt support amongst our population at City Hall. That is not to say that it doesn’t have its supporters, only that it was more likely to be dismissed than embraced by those I spoke with today. But thanks anyway, Anonymous. At least it is something that can be considered by everyone and submitted for a vote in the future.
