Keep the demands simple and reasonable.

Forums:

Keep the demands simple and reasonable and the whole city will be behind us. If you add too many demands that people can not buy into, the movement will lose supporters.

Demands like "The city of Los Angeles to pressure the state to start a convention, as provided for in the Constitution, to remove corporate personhood and money from politics at a national level."  will win supports

Demands like "The canceling of student loan debts" can not be fulfilled by the city and will be rediculed by the citizend of the city.

Make this a win-win situation for the city and the occupy movement by putting up demands that the city can fulfill.  Occupy LA is going to get evicted next week from city hall but if we voluntarily leave because the city has met our reasonable demands everybody wins.

Amen.

Yes, pressure the state to start a constitutional convention.  I wholeheartedly agree.  Though the ones who would vote on this convention would be our own State Legislature - whom we as citizens are already represented by.

I would like to invite the State Senators and Assemblymen and -women whose districts include Los Angeles to our GA to discuss this specific idea.  We should also encourage each other - other Occupiers and Los Angelenos - to write directly to our state representatives.

What about justifiable debt restructure?

sure, forgiving student debt is ridiculous, but it's just as ridiculous to have a 50,000 dollar student debt keep growing.

Interest rates ON ALL student loans should be dropped to 2.9% max, no interest rate accrual or payments due when the student is not working. if they are receiving unemployment, perhaps a small percentage can go towards the payment for that month.

Justifiable debt restructure would all ANYBODY the right to restructure their debts as long as can pay down their debts. Restructure would include SEVERE lower interest rate charges on the existing debts, and lower monthly payments as well. the key is this would be done with no credit default being attached to the person requesting JDR.

Nothing will change if we don't address the debt issue in a fair and reasonable manner. Paying back all that is owed from the priniciple is fair, reducing the amount owed by reducing the interest rate charges is just as fair, as is lowering the monthly payments, as long as that person is not running up new debt, that is the key.
