Break-up letter to Bank of America

As you might already know, Bank Transfer Day is this Saturday, Nov. 5. What you may not know is that on Bank of America's website, their terms & conditions state that the proper action to close your account with their bank is to write a letter and send it to Tampa. Of course, that makes sense. (Not really.)

Regardless, like most banks, B of A closes around 2PM on Saturday, and I have to work. So Bank of America will be getting its letter -- all 6 pages of it.

You can read my break-up letter to B of A here: http://broketheinterweb.tumblr.com/post/12211905952/break-up-letter-to-b...

If anyone else is unable to make it to the bank on Saturday in an attempt to close your account before 2, I encourage you to write that letter. You have as many pages as you'd like to express your frustration, and even if only one person reads it, that's enough to make them think. Also, it's no coincidence that I put my account information at the end. ;)

Feel free to post links to your letters on our Occupy LA Facebook page, and I'll repost the best ones for all our fans to see. This goes for all big incorporated banks -- let's let them know exactly what we think of their predatory practices.

That's a great letter, but I

That's a great letter, but I must point out that in California (and Idaho and Washington as well), state law provides that you can in fact walk into a branch and close your account--no letter to Florida needed.

You don't have to take my word for this, just go to BofA's FAQ page and see their answer to the "How do I close my account?" question. Look on the left side of the page where it tells you which state the information is for...if it doesn't say "California," select California from the dropdown list. If the site thinks you're in one of the other 47 states, it'll give you that crap about writing a letter to Tampa, Florida, but if it recognizes that you are in Cali, the answer to the question will be "visit your local banking center." And what better day and time to do that than on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 9 AM, in downtown LA? :)
