In light of reading the 9/29 minutes I did some research in municipal codes to find the legality of where we can sleep.
Keep in mind I'm not a lawyer.
I found this particular code (Sec. 41.18) to be relevant:
"(Amended by Ord. No. 137,269, Eff. 10/21/68.) No person shall sit, lie or sleep in or upon any street, sidewalk or other public way."
I can't mind the ordinance listed in bold, so if someone can find it please post it here. A case in 2006 ruled that this code cannot be enforced due to there being not enough homeless shelters in Los Angeles for people to stay off the streets. From what I read on other various sources (I was just Googling the issue, this isn't law or anything) as long as we do not obstruct the entire sidewalk, and we do not disturb the peace, we shouldn't be harrassed.
The subject of where we will be able to sleep concerns me. I won't be able to arrive until Sunday anyway, so if someone can send me a phone number I can contact them at on Sunday to fill me in on what the Saturday night situation was I would appreciate it.

"An ordinance is invalid if it’s unreasonably or unnecessarily burdensome, if it
prevents you from communicating your message, or if it’s selectively enforced.
Remember: the government can’t discriminate against you for the content of your
speech. This means that city officials may not impose additional burdens or costs on
you because your message is controversial."
Not sure how legally sound it is, but it directs us on the right path. The "occupation" part of our message is an important one, and if we can't stay it would interefere with our freedom of speech.
However I think in order for this to fly we would need some sort of statement projecting this message.

whether legal or not, anyone visiting Venice Boardwalk at night will find many sleeping on what is an LA CITY sidewalk [the boardwalk] and homeless folk are
storing some packs/bundles inside adjacent to cement short wall inside the Rose parking lot - which is a privately run but LA County facility...for now they are not being rousted.
this is Info only here, to know comparable circumstances, as is Skid Row similarly,but is not any assurance, and they also are not near an official city bldg or business district. FYI

HELLO, YES, SLEEPING ON SIDEWALKS IN LA IS LEGAL FROM 9 PM TO 6 AM. THIS APPLIES TO ALL PUBLIC SIDEWALKS IN THE CITY. That means the sidewalks surrounding CITY HALL park not those within the park.
This is based on a court case settlement a few years ago between ACLU and the City of LA.

Keep in mind, the laws of Los Angeles are quite complex, and the laws involved in Occupy LA are different than most protest events because there is no permit, it is taking place in a city park, and it involves staying overnight(s).
The actual Occupy LA members/ leaders seem to know the laws and rules that apply and are having a safe and legal event.

I would like to live in a country with an issuance of money to every INDIVIDUAL every two weeks amounting to at least the greatest LIVING WAGE, a "Citizens wage of at least a living wage" if you will. Citizenship shouldn't be required, neither should a job. "An ample 'guaranteed living income for everyone' legislation please."
