Relevant Post...re: Communist/Socialist recruitment
Submitted by skullnboner on
Thanks for the interesting and revealing post Nevada. It is poignant to keep the eye on this ball (the dialectic tool of the monopolistic Finance-Capitalist Corporate sydicates). Mr. Obama has a lot of those associations in his background and many of the organisations supporting his rise from obscurity were/are Bankster-financed Leftist groups. Of course when I say Banksters, I don't necessarily mean directly in most cases, but through corporate and foundation client institutions.

It's kind of amusing, but many of these 'socialist labor' groups are represented by lawyers who hardly 'labor' in the traditional sense! So too many of the socialist leaders are hardly 'Laborers' or Workers and in my experience not a few of them were born with the proverbial 'silver-spoon' in their mouths! Someday people might figure out or realise why the 'rich' would covertly support socialism, when they realise it is a program to consolidate, centralise and control the wealth--not an equal opportunity to share in that wealth. I can hardly think of a socialist society where the leadership did not live in the lap of luxury compared to it's 'proletariat'.
I am of course speaking as one who comes from a working class (not even middle class level often) background in both Union and non-union labor. I understand how Unions operate in spite of the memberships being of or from working class backgrounds. I know most like myself oppose socialism (even tho we are getting it) or communism by another of it's names. There would be no need for socialism if a morally honest monetary system were installed that served the people and reflected the economic realities of what used to be a Free enterprise system. Those who set up the monetary-scam of the Bankster system is the crux of the problem and no socialist I ever knew focussed on this one vital aspect's erosion on the economic well-being of the society.
Well said

I've found your words "Those who set up the monetary-scam of the Bankster system is the crux of the problem and no socialist I ever knew focussed on this one vital aspect's erosion on the economic well-being of the society" to be dead spot on. I've noticed that whenever bringing a conversation back to that point that many seem to ignore it and veer off about something else.

Monetary Reform
Submitted by Seth Spinolla on
Yes! I noted that too. I've been scowering blog posts and comments and only a tiny minority seem to have any interest or clue about a system--a monetary system that is the very lifeblood of an economy whereby human production and consumption depends upon. There's talk of taxing the rich, repealing regulations etc. etc., but nothing that gets to the foundation of the issue of what money is, how it comes into being and by whom it is or should be managed..
Everything BUT, in spite of everythng being set in motion or not in motion by the very possession and use of money. At least that's what I see on this Occupy site. All kinds of intellectualisms and strained discussions and complaints about the everyday operations of a leaderless movement. Leaderless supposedly, but there's an ego thing going on with some people acting like they ARE the leaders, chastising others making observations, making warnings and otherwise using their rights of free expression. Can't say I see much expression concerning enlightened knowlege about the money system and the proper soutions.
Not a good sign for the progress of humanity, if people refuse to examine this core element to all other human systems in society. I think even more people from the less-developed countires are more aware of this issue than the developed nations.
Without free speech no search for the truth is possible, no discovery of truth is useful. Better a thousandfold abuse of speech than denial. The abuse dies in a day, but the denial slays the life of the people, and entombs the hope of the race.

Why are all the haters on my back about hate? I love 4 letter words and relief is one of them, but this four letter H-word is flung around like confetti. Are dey brudders in the BrudderHood of Death or the the theiving RobinHood brudderhood?
Let's teach our brudders what's really important to focus on and change for the good of us all. Here's a good post no one but I have answered to: Informative article titled "What is money?" About how banks create money out of thin air (debt created interest-bearing private bankster money). Learn why the monetary system is a racket.

BTW, my post was in general, I had no sights on everyone.

Personal Attacks by someone who has now left the Occupy movement
Submitted by Lee on
Nevada is still sowing discord, even though she has publicly announced she has left Occupy for good.
People of many backgrounds and ideological convictions are involved in Occupy Wall Street and beyond, and the resulting vigorous debates don't have to be personal attacks or paranoia--they can be.......democratic!! Yes, there are communists and socialists, also anarchists, liberals, greens, democrats, republicans, conservatives, libertarians of the right and of the left.
If you look at this movement around the world supporting us and fighting the same fight, do you really think the 300,000 people in Italy are all for capitalism? Los Indignados in Spain? And where do you think the direct democracy/general assembly methods/ consensus processes have come from? Yes there were town halls in New England, yes the American revolutionaries had general assemblies, but in the last 10 or 20 years, it's been the Zapatistas in Mexico, the workers combatting the effects of the International Monetary Fund in Argentina, and hundreds of thousands of disaffected youth around Europe. I'm sure you know most of them are not Ron Paul supporters!
Mario is a very helpful activist/organizer in Occupy LA; he is also completely open about his own views and experiences. For heaven's sake, if you have a problem with what he is doing, take it up with him directly; but he has a right to his own opinions.

PS, the Cold War is over
Submitted by Lee on
The Cold War is over, the Soviet Union has dissolved, the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain have come down, and most people agree that China is not communist. Socialists get duly elected and duly kicked out of office by vote in Latin American countries and European countries all the time. I think it would be very positive if people in the US joined the world and participated more in international debates of policies--not to be dominated by any other country or countries--that should not happen to any nation or group of people, although it often has--but to be part of the global human community. The corporations are international; those of us that want to rein in their power need to be as well, and we need to be able to work with people we disagree with.

Problem here : 1 person calling himself "RUNNING " OLA huh?
Submitted by maryjanie on
been seeing a name mentioned by other reporters about OLA, especially the name Mario Brito - who is being reported as a "leader" or having 'helped' initiate the OLA movement...as if he were some prime mover or organizer higher, better, more, or the originator > than all the others involved...huh ?
googled and found an on-top listed video saying this guy is "RUNNING" OLA.... huh ?
this looked to others like it was a self-promotion video of a probably a loud-speaker who may say some left-winged words, be vehement and arousing like any other politician - but he seems more into enlarging his image than would a more cooperative-fair-sharing-regular-OLA-worker. Why take credit in an exaggerated way when this movement is not ‘his’ but all of ours ?
Sure there are varied personalities, some more ego-aggrandizing than others, and some needing more validation and attention too. These kinds often want to appear to be more than they are or can be. Others are more fair. sharing, humble even, helping and not just wanting BIG CLAIMS for credit due or not.
http://www.google.com/search?q=mario+brito+la&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls...
The problem is the claim made of being a leader, or running anything so big and varied and important as THIS OLA MOVEMENT is.
And making all the other people who do as much or more seem to be less or irrelevant by comparison. And reporters who are looking for 1 main spokesperson then listen to 1 main person's views or desires to copy their editorial style. So reporter and claimant play into each other’s mis-taken-view of what OLA is.
And this man’s apparent views and associations and dreams are lopsided and not the agreed-to-by-consensus or the general ones espoused by all those 'others' - who work equally hard and with as many skills and intelligence and serious dedications as any 1 – who is demanding fame and claiming to being-MORE than the others.
This display is a serious determent to the idea of equality and respect fairly given to all concerned.
If those other reporters are fooled - because of their paradigm of looking for the triangar model with 1 male on top - be he Latino/ Chicano/ Indigienous to the Americas’ decent or of African-decent - either way that is the excluding of all the other groupings of their equality - of noting their abilities, talents and work here...this is contradictory - to the desires for CHANGE of hierarchies, as continually stated at OLA.
Everyone can and does contribute. But not everyone claims to be OVER or higher or MORE than the others in this movement and at this site.
A concern is made over anyone here trying to 'take over' - whatever - at OLA - be it the attention, the media coverage, the tone, the mic, the speech, the GA, or assn to the celebrities who visit us, the decisions, the direction we are moving in, ..or anything at all that belongs to the collective community.
We all need to be paying attention to not be hijacked by another person or group, no matter what claims are made for their belief systems and their own heroes.
We can not be led nor obey nor lured to agree with anyone - just because they know how to give forceful speeches or take control over anything here...the mic, the GA, the committees, the anything here.
OLA belongs to all here who are seriously concerned, working and dedicated.
Taking that power-over-others is not acceptable here. Not having the people wanting THEIR NAMES to appear up front as Leaders Runners or any body MORE special than all the rest of us...all of us....
come back to what this movement claims to want to change – remember what’s been repeatedly said.
....

Mario, Pls Stow the Ego
Submitted by tovangar2 on
I thought "Nevada" was told to move on as she may be an infiltrator from US Trust (?)
That said, I find Mario's self-promotion abhorant. He is often the only OLA person, mentioned, quoted or given a job title in too many blogs and articles. it's getting tiresome in the extreme.
Mario, if you want to further the aims of the Movement, pls put your ego on a back burner, it's been a problem since the first OLA planning day. We are not here to serve as your resume-enhancer or your springboard to something "bigger" and more lucrative. Stop giving interviews, stop making up self-serving job titles, stop posing for pix, stop speaking to outsiders on our "behalf". In other words, stop promoting yourself to reporters and bloggers to the detriment of of OLA as a whole. You are NOT our "leader", no matter how much you want to be. If you can add value pls do it anonymously and without requiring some quid pro quo as payment. Your satisfaction should come only from helping the Movement in any way you can.
If you cannot do this, please leave. You, like any of the rest of us, are replaceable.
STEP UP STEP DOWN
Submitted by Ruth Fowler on
Mario Brito is not running Occupy LA. I am.
That was a joke.
We are a collective, and I suggest we start incorporating 'step-up, step-down' in every aspect of our behavior. If we're dominating conversation, let's step down for a minority voice to be heard. There are undoubtedle more confident people who find it easier to step into the limelight and feel a responsibility to do so because of their ease with public speaking or whatever, but - STEP UP, STEP DOWN.
Anyone want to write my next blog post? A quiet person? A newbie?

Nice.
But, OMG, the last thing I saw about OLA was a rather short blog linked on Twitter yesterday. Mario got seven mentions by name, two quotes and was identified by two job titles, "City Liasion" and "de facto Leader" (!) I guess he didn't take my advice to heart. I've heard the LA Weekly cover story on OLA is even worse, but I haven't read it yet. I'll probably give it a miss.
Would think the media committee would want to address that
Submitted by Fex on
Huh. Not trying to dis Mario one way or the other, but wonder if the media committee might want to step up and ask him about such activity. If Mario's pretending to be speaking for everybody at OLA to the press and the press is taking him seriously, seems like that's the media committee's sphere of expertise not his.

Submitted by tovangar2 on
Mario's not on the Media Committee that I know of, so they may decline responsibility. Last I heard verbally was he now is "Head of Security and the LAPD Coordinator" (which sounds rather ominous).
I don't think the press is so much taking him seriously (they don't take anything about OLA seriously) but rather that they're lazy and let Mario write their stories for them. What do they care if it's true or not?

Tovangar2, got links to main stream media (not blogs but news sites) where Mario is quoted as being a liason and/or leader? If so why not post them in the media comittee's forum and let them decide if they feel one way or another about it. Perhaps they would be interested, I don't know.
